Operational Weather Services to Farmers
Operational weather services to farmers in India by IMD started since 1945 in the form of Farmers' Weather Bulletins (FWB) . FWB are issued twice a day.
For inclusion of major crops' information, their growth stage, state and agrometeorological advisories, depending on forecast and ongoing cultural practices State Composite Agrometeorological Advisory Service(AAS) Bulletin are issued with active co-ordination of the State Department of Agriculture.
Based on these AAS bulletins, a consolidated National Agrometeorological Advisory Service Bulletin is prepared in the Agrimet Division of IMD on every Tuesday and Friday and is supplied to various parties related to farming community.
Also, an All India Monthly Weather and Crop Bulletin is prepared , which consists of inputs from daily/weekly weather reports, progress reports of AAS units, AAS bulletins for the month, crop weather watch group report and press reports.
To monitor drought on a real time basis, aridity anomaly maps for the whole country is prepared and is issued once in a fortnight.
